Addressing Sea Level Rise is a Priority
The importance of this issue is front and center in the minds of all of our council members. This fall we will see the findings of a comprehensive study on this issue. It is imperative to have this study completed so that we can be sure that a solution for one neighborhood does not result in a new problem for another.
City staff have estimated that to address our flooding and sea level rise projects, it will require over $300 million and 15 years. I can tell you that none of my colleagues on council, including myself, are willing to wait 15 years. Once we receive the new study’s findings, we will collectively begin identifying new funding scenarios to substantially reduce the time involved in addressing our challenges.
