Public Safety is a Priority
We continue to be the safest city of our size in the entire country. In fact, our crime rate is the same as it was in the 1960s when we were a much smaller city. I have consistently voted to equip and to pay our first responders. The job that they do for us every day is difficult and oftentimes dangerous.
Fortunately, our city has been blessed with outstanding volunteers from throughout our region to staff our emergency medical services. We have the largest all-volunteer rescue squad in the nation. The men and women who give freely of their time and energy to be on call 24 hours a day, all year round, ought to be applauded.
From responding to a jet going down near Oceana to preventing a potential situation at senior prom, we have the very finest first responders you would find anywhere.
They deserve our support, and I’m working hard to be sure they know they have it.
